Simplify Your Life, Dock Your iPod Here

Life is complicated. Let the Denon S302 DVD entertainment system simplify things. Here's the one-box solution to your audio/visual needs, combining great sound from just two stereo speakers and a powered subwoofer with stunning DVD visual performance, all with far less clutter. Not only does this system perform incredibly well, but it's designed with a visual flare that allows it to fit seamlessly into any home decor. But wait, there's more. As the iPod culture continues to grow, manufacturers are increasingly looking to integrate Apple's all-conquering device into their music systems. This system can digitally sync with any docking iPod with the supplied plug-and-play cable; and once connected, all basic iPod functions, including volume control, menu navigation, play, stop, and skip, can be accessed onscreen (with a connected TV) via the Denon remote. iPod Photo pictures can be displayed; and you're also able to recharge your iPod while it's connected. So you won't have to miss a note of your music regardless of the source, any other portable audio device can be connected to the USB port or the analog 3.5 mm headphone mini-jack on the S302's front panel.
Realistic Surround Sound From Just Two Speakers

Denon's S302 is one of the first DVD systems in the world to include Dolby Virtual Speaker, the latest revolutionary virtual surround sound format developed by Dolby Laboratories. Virtual Speaker is a highly sophisticated audio virtualization technology that makes it possible to enjoy natural, realistic 5.1-channel surround sound from just two stereo speakers. Virtual Speaker transforms TV, movies, and music into a thrilling surround sound experience, without additional speakers or wire clutter. Using highly advanced, powerful algorithms and extensive room-modeling technologies, Virtual Speaker can duplicate multiple, complex sonic signatures in their entirety, from the initial impulse to the final decay, including reflections that naturally occur in a properly placed 5.1-channel environment. Also, Virtual Speaker employs crosstalk cancellation to keep the surround cues for each ear from being cancelled by cues from the other speaker. This makes Virtual Speaker different from most other virtual systems on the market today. Other systems limit their processing to direct sound, ignoring 99% of what is needed to deliver an accurate, natural home theater experience. As a result, these systems don't begin to approach the realism achieved by Virtual Speaker. For private listening, there's Dolby Headphone technology that works by creating an acoustic illusion: it makes you think you're hearing a five-speaker home theater system, when in fact you're listening over ordinary stereo headphones.
Lots Of High Performance Features

The 302's single-disc DVD player/amplifier/tuner/control center is loaded with features aimed at delivering the highest performance. The DVD player is compatible with DVD, DVD-Audio, DVD-/+R/RW, CD, SACD, CD-R/RW, JPEG, MP3, WMA formats and decodes Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, and DTS signals. Digital signal processing is handled by a Genesis Microchip Faroudja FLI2310 DCDi (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) chipset usually found only on higher end receivers. DCDi fills in the missing lines in interlaced video. It produces fewer jaggies in diagonal transitions than other methods by analyzing motion changes in both the even- and odd-numbered video fields. Digital to analog conversion is 216 MHz/12-bit for video and 96 kHz/24-bit (Burr-Brown PCM-1803) for audio. There's selectable progressive scan mode for smoother video with high definition TVs and video upconversion to HDMI output. A full array of audio/video connections including composite video, S-Video, component video, HDMI output, optical and coaxial digital audio, and headphone mini-jack let you connect just about any other component. The amplifier sends 50 watts of power to each of the 2-way, dual 3.15" mid-bass and 0.75" polyethermide tweeter stereo speakers, while low frequency effects are produced by an 7.87" cone driver, 100-watt, powered subwoofer. And for radio listening, a PPL synthesized AM/FM tuner offers 56 station presets and will receive RDS (Radio Data System, FM stations only) program type, traffic program, and radio text information if available in your area.
Help Is Just One Key Away

All the S302's advanced features would lose their appeal if they were difficult to access and control; fortunately, Denon designed the dual-faced remote control to be uniquely easy to use. Besides the DVD player/tuner, it can control your TV, satellite receiver, cable box, VCR, and more. Its illuminated top panel keys access the functions you'll use the most such as power, play, and volume control; and by turning the remote over and opening a cover, you can access additional functions that you'll use less often. The HELP key on the remote is a particularly handy feature for easy switching among the different components in your system. Pushing HELP brings up an onscreen display (on a connected TV) that tells you what your options are based on which components are connected and what kind of disc is in the DVD player. All you have to do is scroll through friendly, easy-to-understand options like Watch TV, Watch DVD, Listen To Radio, Listen To iPod and choose the one you want. It's as easy as that.
Setup By The Numbers

And what good is easy operation if you can't get the system hooked up in the first place? That's why Denon engineers made initial system setup as easy as 1, 2, 3 well, actually 1, 2, 3, 4, but who's counting. First, you connect the speakers to the subwoofer; second, connect the subwoofer to the control center; third, connect the control center to the TV; and finally, plug the subwoofer into a power outlet. No wires to run to the sides and back of the room, no complicated connections to make. The speakers are all magnetically shielded for no-interference placement near a TV; and the stereo speakers have included table stands, or you can wall-mount them with the included hardware for an elegant, space-saving layout--the perfect complement to today's flat-panel TVs.
